4 Hands + Peacemaker
Kirkwood, Missouri
A New Culinary Destination in Kirkwood
DG2 Design served as the landscape architect for 4 Hands & Peacemaker, one of the most anticipated restaurant openings in the St. Louis region. Located in downtown Kirkwood, Missouri, this collaboration between 4 Hands Brewing Co. and Peacemaker Lobster & Crab transformed the site of the former Down by the Station gift shop — steps from the historic Kirkwood train station — into a vibrant indoor-outdoor dining destination three years in the making.
A Seamless Indoor-Outdoor Experience
DG2 Design worked closely with building architect Eddy Design Group and civil engineer Castle to ensure a smooth, cohesive transition between the restaurant’s interior and its landscaped outdoor spaces. The 2,500-square-foot interior opens to a covered patio through 9-foot accordion glass doors, blending seamlessly with an uncovered patio and a green “back yard” area beyond.
A Park-Like Setting Rooted in Native Plantings
Guests are welcomed by a park-like landscape featuring native plants, boulders, and trees that soften the urban setting and create a sense of arrival. The outdoor spaces are designed to feel relaxed and unhurried — a natural extension of the restaurant’s hospitality rather than simply an overflow area.
Flexible and Family-Friendly
The backyard provides an open space for children to play while adults dine nearby, a rare and welcome amenity in the Kirkwood dining scene. An additional patio adjacent to a red caboose is framed with string lights and umbrellas, adding character and charm to the space. Early visitors have praised the spacious, beautifully landscaped environment, making 4 Hands & Peacemaker a standout addition to downtown Kirkwood.
